The best description for Dark Facade would be a post-apocalyptic steampunk role playing game with elements of gaslight horror and pulp adventure. Yes, that's quite the mouthful but let's look at the reason behind these qualifiers. Hopefully, it'll make more sense. In creating this setting, I desperately wanted a Victorian era feel to what was going on but I didn't want to be hampered by real history. I decided to hold a cataclysmic event that shook up the world and changed the landscape so dramatically that we have ended up with a familiar but different world. We went on to create a backstory and history that brought monsters into the world; horrible demons and their minions that set up outpost on all the major continents in a bid to dominate all life. Humanity's advancements into an era of steampunk science came at a bit of luck. Albion, the most advanced country in the world, was given a reprieve when the demonic master in charge of their chunk of land tried to siege Arcadia. The resulting conflict only lasted a single year for the demons but in the real world, over three decades had passed. This gave people the chance to settle and rebuild. The city Aegis was founded and advances in science were finally allowed to flourish. When play begins, the war has ended for Albion. Humanity has won but the rest of the world is still plagued by monsters. Demons that survived the final battle still vie for men's souls and corruption flourishes. This is a time of subtle horror and a land rebuilding from the ashes of decades of war. Invention, gadgetry, exploration and religious zeal all have their place. Step in and look at the more detailed history of the world. You won't be disappointed!! Game address: facade.dune.net 2001 |
